Rendering fidelity and the pages-with-warnings report
SpaceSite turns each published Confluence page into a static HTML file. There is no server-side logic and no JavaScript on your site, so pages load fast and stay readable for years. The trade-off is that anything in Confluence that needs a live query or interaction cannot keep running once it is static. This page explains what converts faithfully, what degrades, and how the pages-with-warnings report shows you exactly where.
The short version: most content comes across in full. Only a handful of dynamic or interactive macros are affected, and when they are, SpaceSite keeps something useful in their place and records a warning you can review before you go live.
What converts faithfully
- Text, headings, lists, tables, task lists, dates, anchors, and multi-column layouts.
- Info, note, warning, tip, and custom panels.
- Code blocks, with syntax highlighting applied when the site is built.
- Expand sections (rendered as native expandable blocks), the table of contents, and the page tree and children lists.
- Images and attachments, copied onto your site and re-hosted so nothing points back to a private Confluence URL.
- Internal links and @mentions, rewritten to the matching page on your site. Mentions become the person's name, without any account data.
- Native tabs and synced blocks, rebuilt from the document format so their content is preserved.
What cannot render live
Because the site is static, some macros cannot run. SpaceSite handles each one in one of three ways, so a reader never lands on a blank space:
- Passive snapshot. Dynamic lists such as page properties report, content by label, and recently updated are frozen as they were at publish time and captioned with the date. They do not refresh on their own; re-publishing the source page updates them.
- Link back to Confluence. Interactive macros such as Jira issues, embedded widgets, iframes, diagrams that did not export an image, and unknown third-party or Forge/Connect macros appear as a short note naming the macro, with an "Open in Confluence" link.
- Plain link. Smart links and embeds become an ordinary link to their target.
The pages-with-warnings report
Open the SpaceSite panel in your Confluence space settings to see the report. Each page lists the warnings it triggered, with a type, a count, and a degradation indicator so you can spot the pages that lost the most. Review it on the private preview before you confirm publication; see Publishing and sync.
| Warning | What it means |
|---|---|
placeholder:... |
A dynamic or interactive macro could not run and is shown as a note with an "Open in Confluence" link. |
snapshot |
A dynamic list was kept as a dated, passive copy. |
filtered_rows |
Rows in a snapshot that pointed to restricted or unpublished pages were removed. |
rebuilt_from_adf |
Native tabs or synced blocks were rebuilt from the document format; content is preserved (informational). |
unresolved_link |
A link or mention pointed to a page not on your site (restricted, unpublished, or in another space) and now links to Confluence. |
attachment_too_large |
An attachment above 25 MB was kept as a link instead of being re-hosted. |
attachment_failed / external_image_failed |
An attachment, or an image hosted on another site, could not be fetched and is shown as a link. |
third_party_no_image |
A diagram macro produced no image and is shown as a placeholder. |
unknown_macro |
A macro SpaceSite does not recognise; its exported output is kept and flagged. |
too_many_blocks |
A very long page was cut at the built-in block limit. |
What to do about a warning
- To publish the content differently: edit the source page in Confluence. For example, replace a Jira macro with a static table, or paste the key figures a dynamic macro showed. Re-publish and the warning clears.
- To keep it as is: accept the snapshot or placeholder. It is a safe, honest fallback, and a reader can always follow the "Open in Confluence" link.
Limits worth knowing
- A space can publish up to 2,000 pages. Beyond that, sync stops and the panel tells you.
- Attachments are re-hosted up to 25 MB each; larger files stay as a link.
filtered_rowsandunresolved_linkare also a safeguard: pages with view restrictions are excluded by default and never leak into a snapshot or a link. See Privacy, security and support and the Security page.
