SpaceSite

SpaceSite documentation

SpaceSite turns a Confluence Cloud space into a fast, searchable public documentation site. You keep writing in Confluence; SpaceSite publishes a static HTML version and keeps it in sync on every change. Readers need no account, and you pay nothing per viewer.

This is the overview. The "Where to next" list at the end links each task-focused section.

Who it is for

Small and mid-size product and software teams (roughly 5 to 50 people) that already keep their documentation in Confluence and want a public help center or docs site, without migrating to a separate tool and without paying a per-user price for people who only read.

How it works

SpaceSite has two parts that you never have to operate by hand.

  • A Forge app runs inside your Atlassian site with read-only access. It watches the space you choose and, whenever a page is created, edited, moved, archived, or has its permissions changed, it pushes the content (signed) to the SpaceSite service. A full first sync runs in batches, and a daily reconciliation catches anything that was missed.
  • A Cloudflare pipeline renders each page to static HTML and serves it. The published site gets a navigation tree, breadcrumbs, a per-page table of contents, client-side search, a sitemap.xml, robots.txt, and an llms.txt. Attachments and images are re-hosted so the site has no dependency on Confluence.

Today a site is served at your-slug.spacesite.dev. A custom domain is coming soon (see below).

What it does

  • Publishes a Confluence space as a public static documentation site, kept in sync automatically.
  • Gives you a private preview before anything goes live, and requires an explicit publish confirmation.
  • Excludes read-restricted pages by default — they are never published unless you confirm.
  • Re-hosts attachments and images, rewrites internal links, and builds navigation, search, sitemap, and llms.txt.
  • Produces a "pages with warnings" report: empty dynamic macros, unresolved links, oversized attachments.
  • Stores data on Cloudflare with an EU location hint (R2 EU jurisdiction, D1 EU location hint).
  • Deletes everything when you uninstall the app or delete the site.

What it does not do

  • Does not render dynamic macros live. Macros such as Jira issues, page-properties reports, roadmaps, and calendars become a placeholder or a static snapshot, and are listed in the warnings report. See Rendering and warnings.
  • No comments, feedback widgets, or built-in analytics; no accounts or logins of its own; no WYSIWYG theme editor.
  • Handles up to 2,000 pages per space.
  • Custom domain and password protection are coming soon — they are not in the first version.
  • Data residency is not declarable. The EU settings above are location hints, not a contractual residency guarantee.
