Getting started
SpaceSite turns one Confluence Cloud space into a fast, readable documentation website. You keep writing in Confluence; the site updates a few seconds after you publish a page. This guide walks through your first publish, from install to go-live.
Before you begin
- You need a Confluence Cloud site and permission to open Space settings for the space you want to publish (space admin).
- SpaceSite reads your content with read-only permissions. It never writes back to Confluence.
- A space can hold up to 2,000 pages. Larger spaces are not published in this version.
1. Install from the Atlassian Marketplace
Install SpaceSite from the Atlassian Marketplace onto your Confluence Cloud site, the same way as any other app. No configuration is required at this step.
2. Open Space settings, then SpaceSite
Go to the space you want to publish, open Space settings, and select SpaceSite in the sidebar. This panel is where you turn publishing on, run syncs, confirm go-live, and later delete the site.
3. Turn SpaceSite on
Use the toggle to turn SpaceSite on for this space. This does two things:
- It creates a private preview of the space.
- It starts the first sync, which reads every page and renders it. Larger spaces take longer; the panel shows progress.
Nothing is public yet. Two kinds of content are handled automatically:
- Pages with view restrictions are excluded by default, so restricted content never reaches the web. The panel shows how many pages were excluded.
- Dynamic macros (for example Jira issues or report macros) are not rendered live. See Rendering and warnings for what is kept, replaced, or dropped, and for the "Pages with warnings" report.
4. Review the private preview
When the sync finishes, open the preview link shown in the panel. The preview lives at a private {slug}.spacesite.dev address and only opens for people who have the link, so you can check the result before anyone else sees it.
Open a few pages, check the navigation tree, the on-page table of contents, and client-side search, and review the warnings report. If something is off, edit in Confluence and run Sync now, or see Publishing and sync.
5. Confirm and publish
When you are ready, the panel asks for an explicit go-live confirmation: a checkbox stating how many pages will become public, which you must tick before the Publish site button is enabled. This deliberate step is what makes your site public. Restricted pages are still never included.
After you publish, the site is live at its {slug}.spacesite.dev address. Publishing to your own custom domain, and protecting a site with a password, are coming soon and not part of this version yet.
Preview versus published
| Private preview | Published site | |
|---|---|---|
| Who can see it | Anyone with the preview link | Anyone on the internet |
| Search engines | Excluded (noindex) | Indexed |
| Needs a subscription | No | Yes |
| Cost | Free | Paid |
What it costs
Installing SpaceSite and reviewing the private preview are always free. Publishing a public site needs an active SpaceSite subscription, which you can try free during the Atlassian evaluation period. After the trial, keeping the public site live is billed through Atlassian from your site administration. For the tiers and per-user pricing, see Pricing and licensing.
