SpaceSite

Publishing, sync and managing your site

Once you have published your space (see Getting started), SpaceSite keeps the site in step with Confluence for you. This page explains how sync works, what a published site contains, and how to turn the site off or delete it.

How sync works

The Forge app watches your space with read-only access and pushes changes (signed) to the SpaceSite service, which rebuilds the affected pages. You never run a sync by hand except when you choose to.

Automatic sync

When a page is created, edited, moved, or archived (or restored from the archive), the change is pushed and the page rebuilds within a few seconds. Read-restricted pages are excluded and are never published.

Deletions work differently. Confluence does not deliver a page-deletion event to read-only apps, so an outright deletion — and a page that becomes read-restricted — is not reflected on the site instantly. These are caught by the daily reconciliation pass below, or immediately when you run Sync now.

Daily reconciliation

Once a day SpaceSite lists every page in the space and compares it with what is published. It re-syncs anything an event missed, and removes pages that no longer exist or are no longer readable. This closes the gap left by deletions and new restrictions within 24 hours.

Sync now

The space settings panel has a Sync now button. It re-reads the whole space in batches and runs reconciliation at the end, so new and changed pages appear and deleted pages are removed without waiting for the daily pass. Use it after a large edit or to confirm the site is current.

A space can publish up to 2,000 pages.

What the published site contains

Every published site is static HTML and includes:

  • a navigation tree of the whole space;
  • breadcrumbs on each page;
  • an "On this page" table of contents built from the page headings;
  • internal links and mentions rewritten to clean paths on your site (links to pages that are not on the site keep pointing to Confluence);
  • built-in full-text search, with no external service;
  • sitemap.xml, robots.txt, and llms.txt;
  • attachments and images re-hosted on the site, so it has no dependency on Confluence.

Dynamic macros (for example Jira issues or page-properties reports) are not rendered live; they appear as a placeholder or a static snapshot and are listed in the warnings report. See Rendering and warnings.

Managing your site

Turn the site off (unpublish)

Switching the space off in the settings panel unpublishes the site: it becomes private again, reachable only through the private preview link, and search engines are told not to index it. Nothing is deleted — your content stays. To bring the site back, switch it on and confirm publishing again; a fresh sync then runs.

Delete site

Delete site removes everything: all published pages, attachments, and site data are erased and the address stops responding. This cannot be undone.

Uninstalling the app

Uninstalling SpaceSite deletes all published content and site data (within 24 hours). See Privacy, security, and support and the Privacy Policy.

Coming soon (v1)

These are planned for v1 and are not in the first release:

  • Custom domain over HTTPS. Today a site is served at a spacesite.dev subdomain (for example your-slug.spacesite.dev).
  • Optional password protection for a published site.
